The Pride of Punzoné

Jeffrey Steen |

These days, it's easy to find flashy spirits dotting the backs of bars and swelling over-sweet cocktails. Many sport artificial flavors and few taste natural. That's why it's so impressive to find a thoughtfully-produced line of vodka products that is unique and completely all-natural.

Punzoné—the brainchild of Frank Guerrera—was born in New York City to a world of flashy drinks without much personality. Guerrera, himself a cocktail devotee, decided he'd remedy that by making the first natural variety of a hybrid wine-vodka punch (or “punzoné” in Italian) for family and friends. The success of the spirit prompted the launch of the entire Punzoné line, including an ultra-premium wheat vodka, the Punzoné Originale Sangiovese Sangría mix with blood orange infusion, and Punzoné Lemoncino, a Chardonnay variety mixed with Punzoné Vodka and Sicilian lemons.

Part of what makes Punzoné so attractive to spirits lovers is its makeup of all-natural, organic ingredients. All of those ingredients are sourced from Italy—the blood oranges from Calabria, the wheat from the Piemonte, the lemons from Sicily, and the grapes from Abruzzo. Add in the ingenuity of the product and it stands to reason that Punzoné has earned the coveted Five Star Diamond Award from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences for two years running.

Brand Ambassador Michael Foti has long held that Punzoné's products are a natural introduction to the spirits market in the U.S. “We set out to capture the authentic quality that Italian food is known for, bringing that into the spirits world,” he says.

And so they have—with impressive growth. Heartily embraced by communities across the country—including Italian-American communities, the hospitality community, and the health food community—Punzoné has grown its presence to include over 400 restaurants, hotels, and stores in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Chicago.

“At the end of the day, our product is something that people who want to enjoy an attainable luxury can experience without exorbitant cost,” Foti says. “It's also great for people who are concerned with what they consume, and are deeply interested in quality that's both natural and certified USDA organic.”
